A shop traveler is the process traveler as the floor actually uses it: clipped to a tote, stained, signed in bad handwriting. If the next shift has to ping you to learn the rev, you did not have a traveler. You had a chat log.
Office work order vs shop traveler
The office copy is for purchasing and invoicing. The shop traveler is for the person holding the part. Same job number, different job. Do not send the floor a packing list and call it a route. Do not keep two conflicting revs and hope someone “knows.”
Where it lives
On the traveler rack, in the tote, under the chip guard in a sheet protector if you are civilized. Not in a shared drive. When a job splits, photocopy the packet or print a second and write the split qty on both. One traveler claiming two quantities is how you ship short and machine extra.
Handoff
Night shift should read the last signed step and the next open one. If inspection is Y and unsigned, the job does not move. That is the whole discipline. A shop traveler that everyone initials at the bottom on Friday is a attendance sheet.
